About Us
PG and Research Department of Commerce was incepted in the year 1975 with M.Com. programme. M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes were commenced in the year 1987. B.Com. programme was commenced in the academic year 2015-16. In 2018-19, the total strength of the students is 239. It includes 18 full time and 13 part time Ph.D., research scholars. So far, 35 Ph.D. degrees were awarded. K. Noorjahan, a hearing impaired student pursued M.Phil. and pursuing Ph.D. with Moulana Azad JRF scheme. Every year around 4 hearing impaired students pursue M.Com. programme. The department has good demand ratio for all its programmes. The prorammes offered have good scope for higher studies and employability. The department has a good placement record. Around 5 students clear UGC NET/SLET examination every year. Noticeable alumnus include Mrs. D. Sabitha, IAS., Managing Director, Tamilnadu Cement Corporation, Dr. S. Thirupathi, Joint Director of Treasuries and Accounts, Govt. of Tamilnadu, Mr. M. Kumar, Deputy Financial Controller, TNEB., Dr. H. S. Priyadharshini, Associate Professor of Commerce, Presidency College. At present, there are 8 faculty members in the department. All the faculty members are doctorates and Ph.D., research guides with vast experience. Faculty members of the department are the subject experts for various board of studies and expert committees. Dr. L. Cesis Dastan and Dr. A. Krishnan have published text books for universities and colleges. A copy of the book “Financial Management” written by Dr. L. Cesis Dastan is in the Parliament Library (Lok Sabha). Dr. S. Pandiaraj, Dr. L. Cesis Dastan, Dr. A. Krishnan and Dr. G. Ravi have involved in the text book writing for Government of Tamilnadu. Dr. S. Pandiaraj, Head of the Department and Dr. A. Krishnan are the Vice-Chancellor’s nominee for various inspection and recruitment committees of University of Madras.
