About Us
The Malayalam Department of Presidency College is the first Department started teaching Malayalam all around the world. Then the British Government wanted for the upliftment of vernacular languages of India. So they started Presidency School at first and then the Presidency College. The Department was established in 1863. Many honorable persons came out from this College such as Dr.Chelanath Achuta Menon, the first Professor who got his Ph.D from London, Dr.S.K.Nair H.O.D. of Malayalam of University of Madras Chattanath Achutanunny are example for this. Presidency Malayalam Department was giving UG and PG Degrees till Madras University was established. Now we are having U.G Malayalam and Part-I Languages. Dr.A.Mohanakumar is the present HOD.
