Year of Establishment : 1949 Courses offered : B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Phil and Ph.D, Geography department is the first of its kind among Government colleges in Tamilnadu. The department has faculty specializing in physical and human geography. The staff members have research degrees and great research experience. They regularly attend workshops, conferences and present / publish research papers. Geography is the only department which conducts maximum field visits and study tours. These tours are very useful in developing the interest of students to take up higher studies in geography. The nature of the subject is interesting: Hence students are keen to join the course. Geography is a subject which is greatly useful for preparing for competitive examinations. Students desire to take up such exams are interested to join geography at the undergraduate level. With the upcoming fields of remote sensing GIS and GPS development, tourism industry etc. Geography has an increasing employment opportunity in different field.
