About Us
The department of History was started in the year 1853 with intermediate course, the B.A. (Hons) course and M.A. degree were yet another feather in the cap of our department during the year 1911. It was upgraded into research department offering M.Phil. in the year 1978 and Ph.D. doctoral programme in the year 1982 respectively. Our department has rich academic excellence with highly qualified faculties with the mission and vision of social inclusion. The department has produced 480 M.Phil. candidates and 50 Ph.D. research scholars. Our notable and illustrious historians of yesteryears from our department are Dr. K.R. Hanu manthan, Dr. K. Rajayyan, Prof. T.N. Vasudeva Rao, Dr. G. Thangavelu and Dr. P. Raja Raman. Dr. S. Mani the faculty of our department served as the Director of Collegiate Education. Dr.. M. Lakshmanan Alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University served as the Head of the department during the year 2017-2018. Our distinguished Alumni, to quote a few are Prof. T.K. Venkata Subramaniam, Professor of Jawaharlal University and Prof. M.Dhanuskodi, former Principal of Presidency College.
