About Us
Presidency College Telugu Department was established in the year 1840. Many stalwarts in Telugu academic circles had worked in this esteemed department. Paravastu Chinnayasuri worked here from 1847-1855. His work on Bala Vyakarana in Telugu Language is still lauded in Academic circles. His translations of Mitralabha, Mitrabhedha from Panchatantra of Sanskrit is commendable. He was knighted by Lord Arbath knotand and was given the title “SIR” on Chinnaya suri in 1849. From 1900-1904 Rao Bahadur Veeresalingam Pantulu worked in our department. There is none greater than veeresalingam Pantulu in Telugu Literary circles. It is a great privilege for us as Presidency Fraternity to have such great personality as our predecessors. 1878-1899 Kokonda Venkata Rathnapantulu of our college was awarded the title of “Maha Mahopadyaya” meaning Greatest of Great Teachers. Dr.D.Chinnikrishnaiah did his B.A. Honour in the year 1953-56 and joined as faculty in this department. It is a pride for Presidency Telugu Department to have Dr.D. Chinnikrishnaiah as Professor for 38 years. Dr.Pulluri Uma (1967-1999), a Tamilian, mastered Telugu and worked in this Department for 32 years. She was a renowned Poet in Telugu. She was also appointed as first women Principal from Telugu department in Dindigul Govt Arts and Science College in Tamilnadu. Dr.L.B.Sankararao (1968-99) another Prominent Professor who Graced this Department. Under his able Guidance27 research scholars were awarded Ph.D. In the year 2015 Prof.L.B.Sankararao was conferred with BEST TEACHER award by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Sri N. Chandrababu Naidu.
